The man was fit to burst
His mind torn asunder
His thoughts rattled his head
His dreams rolled with thunder
“Why, God, are you drowning
me in a sea of thought?”
The man wrestled and broke his hip
And slept on a pillow of rock.
A song of fire, a song of wind
Falling angels from Heaven
A song of trees, a song of sin
Angels climbing back again
“It is not a sea, it is the soil
that you are planted in.
So spread your roots and bear your fruit
That I may dwell therein.”
